Presidential Race

Well as we all know the current race for the president’s office is beyond heated up and is scorching the media at this point.

We have had a lot of debate on the forums over which candidate is better, or the lesser of the two evils or what have you. So much so that I have added a new forum that is members only specifically for debate.

If you enjoy a good debate then check out “The Great Debates” section on the Delaware Forums.

Taking down my pool

Welp, when we moved to our house in New Castle a few years back it had a above ground pool. I was excited cause I had a pool growing up as a kid and already knew how to take care of one etc. It is a 22′ round abv ground pool, with a half deck, and it is nice and pretty new. We are so busy, I just don’t have the time to keep it maintained, cleaned, chemical balanced, etc. on top of that we don’t use it much at all so I am taking it down.

This has a few good points I see.

  • I wont have to take care of it anymore
  • We will be saving on our bills (electric, water, etc.)
  • I won’t feel like a trashy neighbor with a green pool
  • We will have more “running room” in the yard and better places for the playset and trampoline.
  • I can use the sweet brick pavers and stone for my front yard landscaping.
  • Don’t have to worry anymore about the kids sneaking in and getting hurt, or worse.

I have started already, draining the pool, that will be done today and I can start demolition. It had a nice wood deck half way around it I’m going to attempt to save and use on the back of the house.

I asked my dad what i should do with the pool, is it worth selling, scrapping, etc. He says just trash it, I don’t have a pickup to take it to the scrap yard and I don’t think the scrap yard would give me more then i would pay to rent a truck so I’m just going out with a sledge and a sawzall and going at it :)

I need a wheel barrow, bad….

TalkDelaware Statistics

Well some may know I keep a pretty close eye on the stats for the site here. We have just passed our 1 year anniversary so I will post the current stats the site is at now.

ON SITE STATS

Active Members: 190 (24%)
Threads: 3,882
Posts: 58,177
Members: 776

The post and thread numbers are pretty good, we just broke 700 members recently as well. It is just that darn 190 active members that kinda irks me. I so wish we had a lot more of those people here chatting. So many more opinions and ideas could be givn if we were all here together.

TRAFFIC STATS

This is taken from good old Google Analytics, this data is shown on a monthly basis

264k pageviews in a month is really good i think

Delaware Statistics

This is a picture showing some of the sites we get incoming hits from

Delaware Statistics

So overall, we are doing good. I am very happy with the rate of the growth on the site, and I thank all the member here and staff for making this all possible. Couldn’t have done it without you all.

Snazzy new web directory

Well, we have been running a Delaware Web Directory here on TalkDelaware for some time. It was never really promoted due to the fact it was on 2nd rate software and I didn’t care for it too much.

That has changed and I upgraded it last night to some very nice software that is much more powerful and feature full. That said, anyone who has a link to any Delaware based website please feel free to add it to our directory (it’s free).

Here is the link to the new site http://www.talkdelaware.com/web/

I will be updating it and adding categories, themes, and links regularly.

Thank you,

Chase

BUGS! BUGS!

Well since starting this snazzy little venture into WordPress MU we I have encountered quite a few little quirks and bugs in the script. Lucky for me WPMU had a good support forum, which has helped me a lot. We have been threw.

  • Major password issues – resolved (I think)
  • Templates that don’t work – resolved
  • HTML tag stripping – resolved (man that was annoying)

Amongst a few other things. Overall though, I think it will be a good thing, and a good place for people to let it all out.

We are TNJ’s Reader’s Choice best website 2007!!

A few months ago The News Journal started the voting for the Readers Choice Awards. I really didn’t think TalkDelaware had much of a shot being a brand new site only open since February. The results came back yesterday and we won best website in Delaware. This is truly a great surprise and honor for me and the rest of the staff and members of TD.

I say staff and members because it would certainly not be the place it is without you, it is honestly the most fun, friendly, and intelligent online community I have ever been apart of and that is possible only threw the hard work and dedication of the people there everyday chatting.

Thank you thank you thank you to all who voted and thank you to the NJ for holding a contest like this. I invite anyone who hasn’t been to talkdelaware.com in a while to come back by and strike up a conversation.

Thanks again,
Chase

It’s getting chilly!!

That’s right its starting to get colder, seems to me like it is a little early but eh, what are you gonna do?

As I get up for work and head out to the car, I am grabbing my jacket now, theres moisture on my window. My heat doesn’t work and I have to fix it before it gets too cold. I had to replace the battery yesterday because it almost didn’t start on my way home from work, that was scary, being stuck at work… :)

The leaves are starting to change and some are falling, only tasks I have are cutting the grass maybe once more and closing the pool up for the year…..yay fun!!

TD Weekly wrapup 6/18/07

We are going to have a weekly wrap-up about what has happened on the forum in the past week on the blog here.

SO, what happened this week?

Well, the 16th was Green Lantern’s birthday for which we all wished him a good one. He is one of the Super Moderators here at Talk Delaware and does a great job at it!

We had a influx of spamming robots that broke through our security measures and posted some bad links. They were shut down and dealt with rather quickly and new security provisions have been put in place. We hope to not see from them again; although if we are getting spammers that tells me that we are getting noticed and coming up in google, yahoo, etc search results.

Yesterday was fathers day, and most people I suppose were busy all weekend with preparations and celebrations, so the site was kinda quiet this weekend. I hope all the other fathers out there had just as good of a day as I had!!

The blog was added this last week on the 13th, a lot of us are new to this, and some not. Right now we have arkangel4time, HEDDY, and rosiebell listed as authors here, they are all much better and more articulated then I am. So you all can look forward to seeing some posts from them soon.

That I guess concludes this week, this is my first time doing this so I hope it was informative for our readers.
